Hampton is one of the oldest settlements in the Commonwealth of Virginia, but

this bayside city has a recently renovated downtown waterfront area with brick sidewalks, cobblestone streets, quaint shops and boutiques, galleries, restaurants, pubs, a functioning, restored antique carousel, the Virginia Air and Space Center and a waterfront park.  Over on Hamptons east side, you will find the Phoebus/Fort Monroe area.  This area has also undergone a renaissance recently and offers an eclectic mix of older homes, antique shops, arts and crafts galleries and restaurants.  These areas are both very popular with tourists, visitors from nearby cities and locals alike.   For those who prefer the great outdoors, Hampton offers five lakes and reservoirs, nine rivers and creeks and six parks.
